Yesterday’s bible verse of the day on BibleGateway .com was: Revelation 3:14 “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;”
At first I thought hmm, what a funny little verse to choose as the verse of the day. It seemed just an introduction to me. I was looking for the rest…well what things saith He? I felt that had stopped short of the message. But then I read it again and the words “the beginning of the creation of God” jumped out at me. I smiled as I received confirmation, and a beautiful reminder, of something that the Lord had spoken to me several months ago when I opened up the Book of John.
God had been speaking to me about the subject of Love and as I read the first chapter of the Gospel of John I was moved to go back to the very beginning, back to Genesis. The language in John 1 of course reminds everyone of Genesis 1, but as I read, I felt like the scripture had opened up to me. In John 1:4-5 the apostle writes “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.”
I flipped the pages of my bible back to Genesis, Chapter 1 and read that the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the deep, over chaos and darkness. I continued (Gen 1:3-4) “And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”
As I read this scripture, it was the first time that it had ever dawned on me that this scripture all the way back in Genesis 1 was the moment when the preincarnate Jesus, God the Son, entered into His creation! He has always been here. He entered in as the First Word Spoken, as the Light of the World.
This is why the scripture tells us that He was in the world, He had come unto His own and His own knew Him not. He had come in from the very beginning, to all, to be the God of everyone. He was in the beginning, and He was the Beginning. He has always been and always will be. This is why in Revelation 3:14 scripture tells us that He is “the Beginning of the creation of God”. He is the Light of Genesis 1.
The Sun is not the light of the world, the moon is not the light of the world, they did not come in to creation until Genesis 1:16. No, it was Jesus all along. God did not leave His people in darkness. He was here from the beginning the whole time. The people did not have to wait until he was born as a man in Bethlehem. He was already here, from page 1, paragraph 1, here the entire time. He had come to divide. To set apart His people, from day 1. The entire Old Testament follows Him and reveals Him. We were not getting it, so He came as a man to show us the Way, but He has always been here, from page 1.
Jesus is the Beginning and Jesus is the End, Alpha and Omega: Revelation 21:23-24 “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
Praise the Lord and thank you Father God for the Light of Men, the Alpha, the beginning. And one day, when the sun and moon are darkened, and the heavens are rolled back as a scroll, praise You Lord that Your Kingdom will be Lit by Jesus. Be blessed today my brothers and sisters and be aglow with the Light of the World!
